To revive Kani Shawls, a comprehensive strategy was proposed: it began with the research of the historical and cultural significance to inspire innovative designs that blended tradition with contemporary appeal. Engagement of local artisans to co-create a new vocabulary of designs suitable for existing looms and the proposed market by ensuring authenticity and feasibility. An in-depth study and analysis to identify consumer preferences and establish distribution channels through collaborations with boutique stores and online platforms, supported by robust digital marketing campaigns. Simultaneously, continuous training and design support was imparted to empower 200 weavers, fostering long-term income opportunities and preserving this cultural heritage through sustainable practices.
Sadhna, known for its cultural legacy, embarked on a transformative journey to redefine Indo-western and Western garments. Led by Anushka Das as head designer, the project focused on creating 15-20 garments that blend modern tastes with traditional roots, requiring innovation in silhouette, fabric, and embroidery, while adhering to budget constraints. The design process involved research into cultural motifs and global trends, collaborating with artisans to integrate heritage craftsmanship with contemporary style. Prototypes were rigorously tested for manufacturing readiness.
The initiative also emphasized styling and catalogue development to showcase the garments' versatility and timeless appeal. A training program for 50-60 workers on quality control was implemented, fostering skill enhancement and sustainable growth. Ultimately, this project aimed to elevate Sadhna’s offerings and reshape cultural narratives in the global fashion scene, reinforcing the brand's commitment to craftsmanship, quality, and community empowerment.
